Patrick is a Chemical Engineer and spent his career in the Chemical Industry. After living in the United States for a spell, he returned to the UK and worked for a company manufacturing products for the Steel and Foundry Industries, before retiring to Leicestershire, where he now lives with his wife, Vicky.

He first played bridge at Leeds University in the early sixties, where in the competition between playing bridge or going to lectures, bridge usually won out! Despite this he managed to complete his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and for some years work pressures reduced the time for bridge, and spare time was spent playing cricket, or more frequently, sailing. He sailed a number of dinghies including a Merlin Rocket and a Laser, and is a former Commodore of Tamworth Sailing Club. Opportunities for sailing bigger boats in the Solent and around Anglesey were also welcomed. Towards the end of his career, time spent travelling in Europe with company computer systems limited the bridge again, but once he retired, he returned to bridge more seriously and has played at Ashby in Leicestershire for more than 10 years.

Patrick is an EBU qualified Director, and directs at Ashby, and also teaches at the Club and runs courses for Beginners and Improvers locally. After going on a number of Mr. Bridge weekends and cruises, he has worked in the Mr. Bridge team for more than 5 years, both on UK weekends and on Discovery. Although Vicky doesn't play bridge, she is a fan of Discovery and enjoys the Mediterranean especially.

Bridge now takes up a fair proportion of his spare time, but when not playing bridge, Patrick enjoys DIY and, living in the country, Patrick & Vicky enjoy spending the summer in their garden, but visit Lanzarote in winter. Patrick is also a Police Volunteer with Leicestershire Constabulary. Family are also important and Patrick and Vicky have 5 children between them, with 8 grandchildren, all starting to make their own way in life.
